Mark Anthony Wilson, author of "Bernard Maybeck: Architect of Elegance," will present on Bernard Maybeck as a pioneer in green design.  Maybeck's architecture possesses that timeless beauty which distinguishes all great art.  His work achieved a delicate and pleasing balance between historicism and modernity.  His buildings all manifest the environmental sensitivity and craftsmanship that were his hallmark.  An emphasis on "an open use of natural materials, honestly stated," marks him as a pioneer in what today is called "green design."  This slide lecture will present dozens of images from Mr. Wilson's new book that illustrate these qualities.  Dozens of Maybeck's best buildings throughout the Bay Area will be shown, as well as archival photos--many of which come from the Maybeck family's collection.
