This one-day course provides an introduction to the vocabulary of classical architecture through free hand drawing. Students will learn to draw the classical moldings and then study the Ionic Order by laying out an Ionic column, entablature, and pediment. The class will conclude with a sketch problem, which combines the above elements to create a facade of a small building. Issues of proportion, traditional construction techniques, and ornamentation will also be discussed.
The course will run from 9am-5pm (with a 1-hour lunch break) on Saturday at Ft. Mason: Building C, Room 205. Lunch is not provided, but there are several restaurants near Ft. Mason.
