Join classical drawing expert Domiane Forte for a day-long intensive course on drawing the Corinthian Order.  7 AIA credits available.
Reading: The American Vignola: A Guide to the Making of Classical Architecture by William R. Ware
Required materials to bring to class: 11x14 spiral bound sketchpad/notebook (Canson is recommended brand-available at Blick's art materials), compass, drawing pencils (2H to 3B), erasers, straightedge, ruler/scale, & circle templates.
Recommended materials: Ellipse templates, proportional dividers, 45 degree triangle.

This one-day course provides an introduction to the vocabulary of classical architecture through free hand drawing.  Students will learn to draw the classical moldings, and then study the Corinthian Order in detail by laying out a Corinthian column, entablature, and pediment.  Students will learn to construct the Order by comparing and contrasting the two different methodologies of Arithmetic and Geometric constructions.  Guest artist Steve Shriver will work with students in learning to draw the archetypical acanthus leaf.  The class will conclude with a sketch problem, which combines the above elements to create a classical door aedicula.  Issues of proportion, traditional construction techniques, and ornamentation will also be discussed.

The course will run from 9am-5pm (with a 1-hour lunch break) on Saturday at Ft. Mason: Building C, Room 370.  Lunch is not provided, but there are several restaurants near Ft. Mason.
